Our group is always looking for new members to add to our friendly crew. You don't have to be an actor to be involved in the group, and no previous experience is neccessary. Unfortunately, due to child protection legislation, children must be 15+ in order to join the Society.

For each performance we need people to help with the following elements:

Lighting and sound making sure lights go out when they need to, that phones ring at the right time etc
Props making sure the details are in the right place, and of the right period e.g. plants, tablecloths, cushions, glasses etc
Costumes making sure these are appropriate for each character, you could even make costumes if that is what you enjoy
Stage manager responsible for ensuring all actors are ready to go on at the right time, opening and closing the curtain, liaising with lights and sound etc
Make up artist most of the time the actors do this themselves but if you are interested in this area we would love your help, can involve making bruises etc
Set design choosing wallpaper, layout of the stage, colour scheme, helping to build the set etc
Prompt sits at the side of the stage, in the wings, and tells the actors their lines if (and when) they forget...this is a very important role
Actors we are always looking for actors of any age, you do not have to be experienced...just keen and enthusiastic

As you can see, there really is something for everyone. If we have enough members available for each performance we work together in 'teams' on each of the areas set out above. If you become a member you can try your talents in each of the areas above, there is no need to limit yourself to one.

There is a Committee that manages the Society and there are opportunities for you to get involved in one of the following positions:

  • Chair
  • Vice Chair
  • Secretary
  • Treasurer
  • Publicity Officer (there is also a Publicity sub-committee)
  • Social Secretary
  • Business Manager
  • 'Ordinary' member

Being a member of the Theatre Society is a great way for making friends, building your confidence, trying out new things and building experience in the theatre for those who are interested in pursuing a career or course in this area. Membership is a bargain of £10 per year (required in order to ensure you are insured and can access all facilities).

If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact us here. This will drop us an email and we will get in touch with you individually.
